Why Me? Understanding One’s Worldly Fate by Omar Suleiman is a deeply reflective hardback of 255 pages that guides readers through the emotional and theological struggle of asking “Why me?” in the face of trials, suffering, and life’s uncertainties. The author begins with the premise that to comprehend our worldly fate (qadar), we must first recognize the One who brought us into existence—and thus understand our purpose and source.

Through a blend of Quranic insight, Prophetic stories, and practical reflection, Omar Suleiman unpacks how pain, blessings, tests, and loss are woven into the fabric of divine decree. He emphasizes that questioning fate is natural, but true growth lies in transitioning from “Why me?” to “Why not me?”—embracing trials as opportunities for spiritual upliftment and patience (sabr).

This work encourages believers to align their worldview with the doctrine of qadar in Islam: affirming that Allah is All-Knowing and All-Wise, that He ordains what befalls His creation, yet human beings bear responsibility for their choices. The writing addresses deep questions—How do we live with uncertainty? How do we reconcile free will and divine decree?—and offers spiritual clarity and comfort for seekers wrestling with loss, injustice, and hardship.

Ideal for seekers, students of knowledge, and those facing trials, Why Me? serves as both balm and guide—a reminder that suffering need not destabilize faith but can refine it. It invites readers to accept the realities of life under qadar, while maintaining hope, gratitude, and patience on the path toward a deeper relationship with Allah.

You will never understand why you're here if you don't know the One who brought you here! You will never understand why you were blessed with something if you don't know what it means to be a blessing yourself.

You will never understand why you're in pain if you don't believe in the virtue of patience. You will never make sense of this life if you don't believe in an afterlife. You will never know who you are if you don't know who you want to become. You will never know where you are going if you don't know where you came from. We live in a world full of suffering, which is meant to wake us from our slumber.

But if we constantly dwell on what we feel has been missed by us, we may be missing out on a far greater sense of purpose and self-worth. A life with less confusion and more certainty.

A life of meaning where we learn to live in harmony with divine decree, so that we can get to know our Lord who created us and our stories. You may have asked before, Why me? But have you ever asked, Why not me?

I've been waiting for just such a book most of my adult life. There are many positive self-help books on the shelves, however this book includes excellent Islamic suggestions. I highly and strongly encourage Muslims to read this book. It will help make life much more purposeful and kinder.
